All good things...

...must come to an end. Alas, after our time in DC we were on to Denver for a few nights of hanging out with the grandparents then hopping our final flight to home. It's good to be back, but at the same time the list of things to see and experience is perhaps even longer than when we left and there's still plenty out there to see another day. Ultimately, it was a tired gang that dropped their bags in the living room after:
284 days on the road
15 countries (US, Peru, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Greece, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain, France, and Andorra)
14 languages experienced (Spanish, Quechua, Rapa Nui, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Arabic, Greek, Thai, Vietnamese, Mogdon, Catalan, Basque, French, Aragonese)
5 continents visited
5 oceans swum in
29 flights
6 ferries
5 long distance busses
6 trains
108 taxis
27 AirBnBs
7 car rentals
4 pairs glasses/sunglasses lost
3 pairs of shoes and 1 pair sandals worn out (and one pair shoes lost)
Zero lost luggage
Zero cases of Montezuma's/Atahualpa's/Pharos's revenge
1,562 miles of walking
After what is both a lifetime's worth of adventure, and also not nearly enough, it was time to settle back into life. We've learned a lot, seen a lot, and hopefully grown a lot but ultimately one of the things we found ourselves most grateful for was to have great community, friends, family, and employment to come home to. After all, if we learned one thing after all these miles, it's that you can't take that for granted. Thanks for all of you who joined via the blog, we have appreciated your thoughts, prayers, and comments. Thanks especially to all our friends and family, work colleagues who supported this venture, and Tyson for keeping the dog alive! Best wishes to you all - the McDaneld family.
